The District Court granted Celebrity Cruise’s motion to compel arbitration of a seaman’s dispute, finding that the four jurisdictional requirements for compelling arbitration under the New York Convention were met: there was an agreement in writing to arbitrate the dispute; the agreement provided for arbitration in the territory of a signatory to the Convention; the agreement to arbitrate arose out of a commercial legal relationship; and there was a party to the agreement who was not a US citizen.
